The Etchings and Southwest Research Foundation

Southwest Research Center in San Antonio commissioned Mr. Hunter to produce an etching of the San Francisco de la Espada Mission for use on their annual Christmas card. This began a tradition. Twenty-three bronze etchings of area missions and landmarks followed, until 1987, when the Christmas cards began to be printed in full color. Many of the etchings were incorporated into a book: Texas Missions and Landmarks. Jack Harmon and Etchings by Warren Hunter. Austin, Texas: Published for the Institute of Texas Cultures by The University of Texas Press, 1978. He continued with the etchings until his death. The final card in 1992 was a rendering of the courtyard at the Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum in San Antonio. In addition, he worked with Southwest Research staff members on assignments ranging from illustrative artwork to the design and production of brochures and periodicals.
